After having more than one kid my favourite time of year has become right after the ski resorts close. Usually we get a couple of weeks of good skiing at the resort after closing - the access is super easy and the skiing usually is too. This year the post-closure season was unusually long, so we spent many weekend days both at the Cypress cross country area and on Seymour. With the skiing still good on a beautiful weekend in late May we decided to bring the overnight gear. We had a rough start to the day, with F having all sorts of problems, but eventually realized the real problem - she hadn't really eaten anything. Once that was dealt with the rest of the short ski was straightforward. At Seymour you can camp after entering the backcountry shortly after Brockton Point, so we stopped to set up camp just on the other side of the boundary. There is a nice flat and out of the way area just west of the trail. The rest of the afternoon the kids and I just lazed around in the sun, while Christian went to summit all the nearby peaks. The next day we tried to sleep in while W climbed all over the tent. I must have dozed of though, cause at some point N woke we up by letting me know that W was covering her sleeping bag with sunscreen. Before getting to the sleeping bag she had also covered her face in a healthy layer of sunscreen; there was enough for all of us. It was a slow and foggy morning. Christian took the big girls up to the top of the closest bump. There was some snow digging and snow creature building before heading home. The descent was quick and easy with the little kids in the chariot. It sure is nice when you can go camping so close to home.

Seymour is a great place for a quick getaway, whether you're looking for a weekend ski trip or a summer camping adventure. The mountain is close to Vancouver, making it easy to get to, but it feels remote and secluded once you're there. In the winter, Seymour offers a variety of skiing and snowboarding terrain for all levels of experience. There are also plenty of opportunities for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. In the summer, Seymour is a great place to hike, bike, and camp. There are also several lakes and waterfalls to explore.

In "Seymour: A Quick Getaway," I explore the idea of escape, perhaps a character named Seymour yearning for a brief break from their daily routine. The title's brevity hints at a fast-paced adventure or a stolen moment of peace. I'm curious to see where this quick escape takes Seymour and what kind of story unfolds.
