Hanging Lake: Conquering Rainbow

Around this time last  year we spend a weekend at Hanging Lake. After our trip to Taylor meadow earlier in the spring we have been looking for a good location to do something similar. Easy access to a good camping spot with potential to climb a peak or two. So in early June we ended up picking Hanging Lake and brought along some new VOCers - Nick and Carly. This is the trip report from back then.

On Saturday we drove up to Whistler Olympic park, where we spend an hour or so driving around to find the right road to access the trail to hanging lake. When we finally found it, it was a quick ~ 3 hour hike in to the lake. We had a quick snack before Carly and Christian took of to climb Rainbow Mt. In the mean time F and I took a nap and played in the tent. Nick went to climb Gin Peak. Just before dinner Christian and Carly returned. ​Christian had successfully made it to the top of Rainbow, but Carly could not quite keep up to him so she had turned around earlier. Nick was still not back, and we started to worry about him. We decided to go look for him after dinner, but luckily he showed up just before then.

The following morning, Nick and I got up at 6.30am to go climb Rainbow. It was a great climb - or hike - mostly snow walking and easy scrambling at the top. Great views from the top. It took us around 5 hours return, so I was pretty happy about that. (Christian took around 3 h) 
Back at Camp we quickly packed everything down and started to head down. On the way home we stopped at Mags' 99, which has become a tradition lately. We ate our food in Murrin Park. F was a little disappointed that there was no swimming.
