Bowron Lakes is one of those must do trips in BC if you like canoeing. I never really considered myself a canoeist, but now it seems like one of the easiest ways to get all the kids out in the wilderness. Up until last winter we didn't even own a canoe yet, but when our third had arrived we jumped on a good deal and got ourselves a massive canoe, a 20' Mackenzie. And in mid August it was time for the big canoe test - 116km of paddling and 11 km of portaging over the course of 8 days. We had a bit of a rough start, but quickly got into the grove of the trip. Christian did end up doing a lot of paddling on his own especially towards the end, and I think he got a bit tired... Read more about the trip here.

Paddling Bowron Lakes in August 2020 was an incredible adventure that turned us into a dedicated canoeing family. Our new 20' Mackenzie canoe was perfect for the 116km journey, and despite a rocky start, we quickly found our rhythm. The experience of portaging and paddling through such beautiful wilderness, especially during the quieter days of COVID, made the trip truly memorable. Even though Christian took on a lot of paddling towards the end and was a bit tired, the overall experience was worth every stroke. For anyone considering this journey, it's a fantastic way to immerse yourself in nature and create lasting family memories.
